Quality Care You Can Count On
MY SERVICES
With You Every Step of the Way
CHILDREN
“Every child you encounter is a divine appointment.” — Wess Stafford, President Emeritus of Compassion International
The language of children is through play and children seeing a psychologist isn’t like an adult seeing a psychologist. Child psychological services involve arts, crafts, games, and activities.
Most of the time a psychologist like me works with children to:
Teach Skills about emotions, thoughts, and behaviour
Address their concerns with practical solutions
Offer a safe, non-judgemental person and space
Create a sense of self-worth
Create a proper sense of attachment
Build their capacity and autonomy
Guide helpful behaviour and deter unhelpful behaviour
I utilize play therapy, theraplay, child-friendly cbt, and attachment based modalities with children. In-home consultation available upon request.
ADOLESCENTS
“When everything seems to be going against you, remember…the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” – Henry Ford
As children are growing into adolescence and adulthood, it creates a very scary time for them. Everything around them is changing, and everything within them is changing as well. Their bodies are changing; their mental processing is changing; their brain chemistry is changing. Teenagers experience stressors and pressure both at school and at home.
This is a terrifying place to be and my philosophy is to meet an adolescent where they are at, to work with them and not against them. I focus on building a strong rapport and being a trusting, safe adult they can confide in. If, and when, a teenager is motivated to make change I guide them on the path to do so. I also support and advocate for an adolescent when they feel they don't have the tools to communicate those needs themselves.

ADULTS
Quality Care
The journey as an adult can be a bumpy road that sometimes requires tremendous support. This is particularly true when you are feeling depressed, anxious or confused about a current life situations. These feelings can be compounded when all the daily stressors of your job, children or marriage leave you with little time to focus on your problems. The counseling relationship can help you focus on the areas in your life that you want to improve. I will help you overcome problems by identifying causes of pain or stress, and discover barriers that interfere in life.
Through the counseling relationship you will gain the insight needed to help you realize your weaknesses and maximize your potential for positive growth and change. I can help you work with past trauma, explore relationship issues, discuss daily stressors, self-discover who you are, explore your potentials, work through a crisis, learn how to self-care and understand your feelings, tame your anxieties and fears, work on minimizing symtoms of mood disorders and much more.
ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY
“The horse. Here is nobility without conceit, friendship without envy, beauty without vanity.”
Ronald Duncan
It has been evidenced that animals can offer an extraordinary amount of emotional support. Animal-assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals, such as horses, dogs, cats, pigs, and birds, into the treatment plan. It is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional therapy.
At this time I am offering animal-assisted therapy with horses.
Animal-assisted therapy with horses may look like activities guided by your therapist, including approaching, touching, grooming, feeding and leading a horse to more advanced activities including requiring the horse to complete a task. Self-reflection is paramount in the process. Goals may include helping you develop skills of emotional regulation, self-confidence, self-compassion and intrapersonal growth. Horses have an emotional intelligence that can be unlike any other animal. They can teach you your greatest strengths and greatest fears and the process can be very enlightening.
Animal-assisted therapy with horses is not a riding program, and all therapeutic work is completed unmounted.
If you believe Animal-assisted therapy with a horse may be beneficial to you, there is an initial intake session before meeting at the barn. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Animal-assisted therapy with a horse is $200 per session and takes into account arena fees and extra expenses associated with the service.
